Michael Johnson 400m Olympics

Michael Johnson’s 400m final at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The first half of his historic double.

1992 DEREK REDMOND THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT. He is best remembered for his performance at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona where he tore his hamstring in the 400 metres semi-final but fought through the pain and, with assistance from his father, managed to complete a full lap of the track as the crowd gave him a standing ovation. The incident has become a well-remembered moment in Olympic history, having been the subject of one of the International Olympic Committee’s ‘Celebrate Humanity’ videos and been used in advertisements by Visa as an illustration of the Olympic spirit and featured in Nike’s “Courage” commercials in 2008.

@markpub Track & Field takes more skill, endurance and passion than any other sport today. You’r just a fat fuck who doesn’t know what its like to be an athlete

  7. Calvin says:

@markpub the 400m takes a very athletic person paired with an insane amount of mental endurance. Half of the race your legs have fallen to the lactic threshold and it is the worst feeling in the world. Well, you wouldn’t know about physical and mental strength… Oh well ;)

Love your Derek Redmond video on YouTube. As it is listed for public use I would like to use it in an ebook I am writing about motivation. I would like to pay you the courtesy of asking your approval. No need to reply to me at max@hitchins.com.au unless:
    1. You DO NOT want me to use it
    2. You WOULD like a copy of the eBook when it is completed. (If so just write and tell me and I will send it to you when completed).

  33. Mathew says:

Derek if you ever read this I hope you realise how many people you’ve inspired. Anyone who has lost a father can appreciate always having a moment like this with your dad to remember and treasure. I couldn’t tell you who went on to win the 400m that year but I’ll never forget this. I showed it to my son as an example of why you should never give up.
