A Medley relay is a swimming event with 4 different people. Each person swims one leg of the relay. The first person is the backstroker, the second the breaststroker, the third the butterflier and the last or anchor person is the freestyler. There are 200 medley relays, where each person swims 50 yards/meters & 400y medley relays, where each person swims 100 yards.

a medley relay is a team of 4 swimmers doing the IM. generally in an INDIVIDUAL IM event, the order is butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle. but in a RELAY IM, the first person swims backstroke, the second person swims breaststroke, the third person swims butterfly, and the last person swims freestyle. so for example, if it was a 200 medley relay, the first person would swim 50 backstroke, the second would swim 50 breaststroke, the third person would swim 50 butterfly and the last person would swim 50 freestyle.

A medley relay is an event where a team of 4 people swim an equal amount of yards each. There are a couple different relays. { Based on age, cause I don’t think a team of 8-unders will swim a 400 Medley relay.} The strokes are swam in the order followed: Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Freestyle.

{8-under} 100 Medley Relay— Each swimmer swims 25 yards. Since it is 100 yards, 2 swimmers dive off the block while 2 others wait at the other end. This relay only works on Short Course Yard and Short Course Meter pools.

{9-10,11-12} 200 Medley Relay— Each swimmer swims 50 yards. Every swimmer dives off the blocks. This event only works on Short Course Yard and Short Course Meter pools.

{11-12, 13-over} 400 Medley Relay— Each swimmer swims 100 yards. Every swimmer dives off the blocks, and this event works on Short Course Yard, Short Course Meter, and Long Course Yard pools.

I’m am not sure if there is a 800 Medley Relay, but it would be an amazing swim. And since most people get confused, the difference between Short Course Meter {SCM} and Long Course Meter {LCM} is that SCM is a 25 meter pool and a LCM pool is 50 meters.

A medley relay is an event in a swim meet where 4 people on the swim team in the same age group swim every possible stroke. 1 stroke is assigned to each person. for example, Bob is swimming breaststroke. Ron is swimming freestyle. Stephen is swimming Butterfly. And Adam is swimming backstroke. The chronilogocal order in a Medly relay is Backstroke, Breastroke, Butterfly(my favorite) and freestyle. Every team mate is responsible for the relay time. If one person goes slow another team mate has to catch up to beat the other relay team there racing. Do you get it now?Good luck if your joining the swim team!
