Have you ever wondered what it would take to set a Guinness world record? Guinness World Records, known until 2000 as The Guinness Book of Records, receives over 50,000 enquiries annually from potential record breakers. However, only a fragment of those succeed in setting a new world record.

Below are some of the most amazing car-related world records, as well as how you can garner a world record of your own. However, keep in mind that safety always comes first. Be responsible and leave the risky stunts to the professionals!

Top ten amazing car-related world records

1.Man balances car on head - In 1999, England’s own John Evans, who weighed 352 pounds, balanced a Mini Cooper on his head for 33 seconds. It wasn’t his head that held the strength – his neck really bore the brunt of the weight. Even the slightest tilt of the head could have caused serious damage, so please don’t try this at home.

2.Sofa speeds to victory - Who knew a sofa could go so fast! In 2007, Marek Turowski managed to drive a motorized sofa, designed and built by Edd China for sofa.com, an impressive 92 mph.

3.Limousine is as tall as it is long - From the ground to the roof, the world’s tallest limousine measured 10 feet, 11 inches. Built by Gary and Shirley Duval of Australia, the towering limo boasted an eight-wheel independent suspension system, sat on eight monster truck tires and had two separate engines. It took over 4,000 hours to build.

4.Dog shows paw skills - Striker, a border collie, holds the fastest time a dog has unwound a non-electric car window. He achieved an 11.34-second time in 2004, in Quebc City, Canada. Can your pooch beat Striker’s record?

5.Car cram creates close quarters - A total of 13 girls in Munich, Germany, set the world record for how many people could cram into a Smart car. While driving, however, remember to only drive with as many passengers as there are seat belts

6.Oldest car production team is not to be squashed - The Volkswagen “Beetle” has been in production since 1937. Since then, a total of over 21 million “bugs” have been made, making it the car that has been in production the longest.

7.Longest car offers passengers a swim - A 26-wheeled limousine, measuring 100 feet was designed by Jay Ohrberg from Burbank, Calif. This car, named the longest car in the world, has a multitude of special features, including a king-sized water bed and a swimming pool.

8.Parade of cars “vettes” out the competition - In 1994, a parade of 2,223 Corvettes traveled from Springfield to Athens, Ill. and back again, making it the longest parade of cars ever.

9.Oldest car crosses the United State in style - A 1902 Northern became the oldest car ever to make a nationwide trek. Traveling 15 to 20 miles per hour, Raymond H. Carr drove the automobile from San Diego, Calif. to Jekyll Island, Ga. The cross-country journey took a whopping 23 days.

10.The 104th time is a charm for one persistent driving hopeful - Mrs. Fannie Turner of Little Rock, Ark. finally passed the written driving test on her 104th attempt in 1978. To date, she is still the person with the most driving tests taken on record.

Guinness World Records is an annually-published reference book containing an internationally recognized collection of world records. The book itself holds the world record as the best-selling copyrighted series of all-time, according to Bruce Watson’s book, “World’s Unlikeliest Bestseller.”

Even if you and your car are not attempting to become world record holders this year, be sure to drive safely and always keep your auto insurance current. For affordable auto insurance coverage that will keep you protected while driving, contact Nationwide for a car insurance quote today.
